Silk Scheduler Implemented in Hillsborough County (Tampa,FL)
LAKEWOOD, CO (March 13, 2006) – The School District of Hillsborough County in Tampa, Florida, has adopted a new scheduling tool to achieve the district’s mission of properly placing all students into classes according to individual student abilities. In the fall of 2005, SDHC, the 10th largest school district in the country, selected the Silk Scheduler from ExLogica, Inc., to assist the district in scheduling SDHC students into correct classes by the first day of school based on student abilities, test scores, previous year grades, and other criteria. Implementation of the Silk Scheduler is now underway in the district’s secondary schools.
Silk Scheduler is a district-based, year-round scheduling program that creates master schedules and maintains student schedules throughout the year. In addition to quickly and accurately scheduling students and teachers into classrooms, Silk provides the ability to consolidate and sort a variety of data typically used in the placement of students such as grade history, credit history, learning environments and test scores (including the latest FCAT results). “Silk will provide the school sites at SDHC with the tools they need to accurately schedule all their students as well as providing a centralized data source for district and state reporting,” said Lyle Groome, President of ExLogica. “We are excited to add Hillsborough to our growing Florida user base.”
“Silk will benefit us in many aspects,” notes Christina Russell, a Supervisor for Secondary Education at SDHC. “Fewer schedule adjustments, improved workflow for guidance counselors and data processors, stretching students academically, identifying students in need of remediation, leaving no student unidentified, balancing class loads and avoiding scheduling conflicts so every student can take advantage of the many programs that are afforded to them are all benefits of Silk. Most importantly, Silk Scheduler will allow us to correctly schedule our students to the highest academic levels based on their abilities providing students the highest academic framework ensuring success in their future endeavors.”
