Baltimore County, MD Implements Silk Scheduler

LAKEWOOD, CO (February 15, 2007) – The Baltimore County (MD) Public Schools (BCPS)  began implementation of the Silk Scheduler this spring to supplement student information tracking and scheduling within the district.  In the fall of 2005, BCPS, the 25th largest school district in the country,  began a detailed proposal and evaluation process to evaluate student scheduling software.  BCPS selected Silk because of its rich and powerful scheduling tools, experience and track record of success in the scheduling market place and it’s ease of integration on it’s Microsoft SQL-based platform.

The Silk Scheduler is a district-based, year-round scheduling program that creates master schedules and maintains student schedules throughout the year.  In addition to quickly and accurately scheduling students and teachers into classrooms, Silk provides the ability to consolidate and sort a variety of data typically used in the placement of students such as grade history, credit history, learning environments and test scores.  “Silk will supplement their existing student system at BCPS with the tools they need to accurately schedule all their students as well as providing a centralized data source for district reporting,” said Lyle Groome, President of ExLogica.

In addition, Silk can help districts automatically schedule students into correct class sections based on ability.  “For instance, Silk can help you quickly identify students deficient in reading and automatically schedule them into intensive reading classes without ever touching the student record,” says Groome.  “It’s a great tool to have in your NCLB backpocket.”
